Photo Ramblings & Conversations from Third Grade

Our new coffee table.  I don't really "love" the gold legs, but
the table's a much better size than the one there previously.
at the UF/Ole Miss game on Saturday.  There were over 90,000
people in attendance.  We were able to pass out many tracts. Even
more were able to read our signs and hear preaching.
A recent picture of some of the youth of BBC.  These were those at our
September "Missions Class."  This month we talked about and wrote
letters to a missionary serving underground in China.
David and I were offered free tickets to get into the FL/Ole Miss game, so we took
advantage of the offer. We enjoyed ourselves, even though FL lost.  It's so nice
that drinking isn't allowed in the college stadiums!  We wouldn't have
enjoyed our time nearly as much.
This picture was taken Sunday night at our house. There were several teams
trying to put on frozen t-shirts.  This team had the most difficult time.

On another note...

Wow have I been bad about keeping up with the whole bloggin' thing or what! Thankfully, I'm not as far behind in my classroom or in "real life."  Actually, I've been doing better than I thought I would... I was a little bit nervous about teaching and keeping up with church activities, keeping the house pretty neat, and the normal routine.  It's so much different having my own classroom and being able to plan ahead...  my life really works better when I'm able to plan.  When I did my student teaching, my cooperating teacher wasn't very organized, so that added lots of unnecessary stress.

Conversations from Third Grade:

Student 1 (adorable, blond-headed girl):  Mrs. Brown, did you see Mrs. So-and-So (Teacher's name omitted in case anyone knows her) the other day?
Me:  Yep.  Why?
Student:  Because she was wearing a skirt with a slit up to the knee!  To the knee, in first grade! I really don't think that's appropriate for first grade.  What do you think?
Me:  Well, I wouldn't wear it, but it wasn't scandalous.
Student:  Right...
Me:  Do I dress appropriately for third grade?
Student:  Yep.
Me:  Would you let me know if I didn't?
Student:  Oh, yeah!  (student 1 runs off to play with her friends at recess).
A few minutes later, student 1 comes back and says:  Mrs. Brown, I have a hole in my shirt!
Me:  Is that appropriate for a third grader?
Both of us:  Crack up laughing.

Student 2 (not-quite-so-adorable, but still cute, boy):  Mrs. Brown, I liked you way better when you had longer hair.
Me:  You liked me better as a person or just my haircut?
Student 2:  Well, as a person; but don't worry, you're still the same on the inside.  I just liked your haircut better before.
Me:  Great!  I'm glad you still realize I'm the same on the inside.

Interesting

Isn't it funny that the word adjective is a noun?

I'm Lauren Brown, and I approve this message.

Another week...

is quickly coming to a close! I can't believe how fast time has been flying since I've been teaching every day. Interim reports are going home next week! That means our first nine weeks is half way over! Amazing how quickly time goes by!

Even though I love my job, it's really nice to get to the weekend! I'm not huge on getting up at 6:15 (okay, more like 6:30 or 6:45 most days, but the alarm goes off earlier), so I love being able to sleep in a little bit on the weekends. This whole teaching thing has definitely redefined sleeping in. When 8:00 is late, you know you're a grownup.

Tonight and tomorrow will be busy with church activities. We're taking the youth go-carting and putt putting tonight. Hopefully the weather will hold out. Tomorrow, we're taking the 5-8 years olds on an "outdoor adventure." Last time, they really had a wonderful time.

During the times we're not at church, I'll most likely be working on interim reports this Sunday.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! God bless!

Youth Night '08

Every year since I was 8 (I think), the Bible Baptist Church of DeLand has put on a "youth night." During this special event, the children take control of the entire church service.  The youth lead the singing, preach the messages, put on skits, sing songs, play the piano, etc.  It's a wonderful time for parents and kids to invite lost family members and friends to come hear the gospel. Grandma and Grandpa are much more likely to come here their grandchild than they are to hear Bro. James or one of the other men.  The gospel is VERY clearly presented to many, many people.

Last night, all went very smoothly!  The nursery class is always a tremendous hit...  they practice and practice, but never seem to get things quite right... if they did, it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining.  It sets a great stage for the older classes.  The teenagers presented a skit depicting the vanity of religion... freedom from sin can only come through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Please pray that those who were lost will ponder what they heard and make a decision to trust Jesus Christ as their Saviour.

Checking In

Greetings!  No, I'm not dead, if anyone's wondering...  I've just been unbelievably busy!  I never knew 20 eight year olds could keep me hopping :). Honestly, I am loving third grade!  My students are great... we've had no behavior problems in 3 weeks... that's pretty good!  They are sweet, smart, and, for the most part, respectful.  Praise the Lord!  Pray that this continues to be the case!

I have to share this one story:  During a prayer before lunch one day, I asked the Lord to help the kids do their best to listen and learn and for Him to help me be the best teacher possible. When I got finished, one boy raised his hand to ask a question.  He said, "Mrs. Brown, why did you pray that you'll be a good teacher?  You already are one!"  Isn't that sweet?  He's not one to throw away a compliment, so I was happy to see that I've "reached" him.

I hope all of you out in the "blogging world" are doing well!  I have to admit, I haven't been reading blogs either... It's high time I catch up on what's going on in your lives.  I miss that!

Have a great weekend!
