First day of class...

Went really well!  I, along with the kids, was very disappointed to hear that tomorrow's school day is canceled due to Tropical Storm Fay.  My students were very well-behaved, happy to get to know me, etc.  I have heard horror stories of new teacher's first days, and I was so thankful that nothing terrible happened!  I'm so looking forward to the rest of the year!
For those of you who've been anxiously waiting... the fish's name is Swimmy...  oh well...  they LOVED picking out the name and are going to have fun calling him Swimmy.  I'm going to have to let it grow on me.

First day of class...

Well, tomorrow is my first day of class with my new third graders!  I'm very excited, a lot nervous, and ready to have a day under my belt.  This is just a quick post to ask you to pray that the day goes smoothly!  I want the kids to have a great time and learn something.  They were VERY excited today when they learned they were going to name our class pet tomorrow (Meet Your Teacher Day was today).  I'm scared about what his name is going to be... probably something like Bubbles or Nemo....  YUCK!  I'm going to try to direct them away from those choices, but I really do want them to enjoy picking out the name.

Friendship Quotes

A hedge between keeps friends GREEN.

It is possible to disagree and still be agreeable.

The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

Friendships cemented together with sin don't hold.

Prosperity begets friends; Adversity proves them.

Promises may get friends, but it is performances that keep them.

The only way to have friends is to be one.

He who ceases to be your friend never was a good one.

A man that hath friends must show himself friendly... Proverbs 18:24

A sign on the neighbor's front door:  ENTER without knocking LEAVE the same way.

Have no friends you dare not bring home.

Few men have the natural strength to honor a friend's success without envy.

I read these today and found them interesting.  The first theme in my reading curriculum this year is friendship, so I've been looking for poems, quotes, and stories that demonstrate the qualities of good friendships.  I found some of these today.

Virginia Trip Report

Did we have a wonderful trip or what!  Everything from the drive to the church services to the time we spent assembling Bibles was great. We thank the Lord for such a wonderful time of fellowship and service.

On Friday morning around 7, David and I, along with 12 young people and another couple, headed out for Virginia.  After visiting several gas stations, all (very slight exaggeration) the rest areas, and a Cracker Barrel along the way, we arrived in Cleveland, VA about 15 hours after leaving DeLand (please note the drive should take about 11 hours).  We visited briefly with Brother Scott Suttle and his family, and headed to bed to rest up for our busy Saturday.

Saturday morning, we headed to what Spring City Baptist Church calls their "Publishing Room."  It's an old Chevy showroom that has been converted into a place where groups can assemble Bibles or portions of scripture.  We were able to spend 10-12 hours there that day, with breaks for food.  We put over 6,500 portions of the Bible together.  It was a blessing to watch the young people work hard.  Watching something go from raw materials to a finished product was amazing, too.  The John and Romans that assembled are in Russian.  Please pray with us that they will fall into the hands of those who  are truly seeking for the truth!

On top of all our hard work and fun, we met so many kind people. It's so nice to be far away from home, but meet like-minded people with whom we can get along because we have a common bond -- our Savior Jesus Christ.

David's Blog

My husband started a blog where he posts biweekly devotions.  Check it out here.

On the Road Again...

...this time to VA.  We're going to a church that has a printing press to help assemble Bibles which will be sent overseas.  There will be 12 young people and four adults on this trip.  Please pray for our safety as we drive to and from VA, as well as the work we are doing. It's certainly a blessing to play a part in the spreading of God's word.

With all the chaos from Jamie's stroke, I really haven't gotten to post much.  We're very happy that today he has shown some improvement.  He has more range of motion and is speaking MUCH more clearly.  Hopefully, this will continue to be the case.  Please continue to pray for my family!  I don't know that I've mentioned this (and I really don't have time to check), but Nana's back is now out.  My uncle got her a wheel chair today since she's not able to walk without excruciating pain.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!  I'm sure I'll come home with some hilarious stories and great pictures from this week's escapade.  With all that's been going on, I've really not been able to share the fun stories from my previous trips.  I'll have to share the most interesting when I return... We get back on a Monday and preplanning begins on Wednesday of the same week... I think life is going to be pretty busy for a while.
